Padang Bai is a picturesque port town and the best place diving in Bali to see turtles, sharks, breathtaking corals and many exotic fish. Shark Point is only for Advanced divers as is Gili Mimpang Tepekong. Open Water divers and Advanced divers alike can enjoy dive trips to the idyllic Blue Lagoon, Jepun and the Jetty. All sites in the Padang Bai area are accesses via a local boat called a Jukung.
Depth 5 – 30 meters
The Blue Lagoon at Padang Bai is like diving in an aquarium. With sloping corals to the left side and a beautiful wall dive to the right side, with an amazing number and variety of reef fish to be seen.
Depth 10-18 meters
Jepun (meaning frangipani) at Padang Bai is great for the macro lover with ribbon eels and mantis shrimp scurrying around as well as a small shipwreck that is home to moray eels and an occasional shark. A recently sunk fishing boat makes a great artificial wreck and temporary home for moray eels, huge groupers and the occasional shark.
Depth 5-10 meters
The Jetty at Pandang Bai is a photographers dream. All the weird and wonderful critters hang around the pylons, frogfish, pipefish, mantis shrimp, flying gurnards and loads of nudibranch. The site can get surge so can only be dived in certain conditions.
Depth 25-30 meters
Shark Point is a site on Gili Mimpang and island to the East of Pandang Bai. It is the best site to see shark in Bali, with a series of pinnacles providing some spectacular wall diving.
Depth 18-30 meters
Situated right next to Gili Mimpang to the East of Padang Bai, Gili Tepekong is a cleaning station in season (June to October) for the Mola Mola (or Oceanic Sunfish). Gili Tepekong also boasts an underwater cave that starts at 26m and goes up to 18m, often encountering sleeping sharks as you swim.
