Detailed description of our 1/2 day Uluwatu Tour

Sunset landtour with Diving Indo

Your Uluwatu tour begins with a transfer to Kedonganan at Jimbaran Bay for a visit to the famous local wet market. The daily catches of fish and seafood are being hauled here to this busy trading market and eventually will be the delicious signature dishes served by the nearby beachfront restaurants at dinner time.

Continuing on your journey we head south towards the limestone plateau of the Bukit Peninsula, deemed the most arid and infertile region of Bali, with its shoreline gradually turning from moderate hillside to steep cliffs. Long ocean waves breaking along the southwestern coast yield the best natural conditions to practice surfing. This particular outdoor sport was originally introduced here in the 1930s and helped to glorify Bali around the world for this sake.

After a short swing by the surfer beaches you will be driven to the remote westernmost cape of the island – a home to Pura Luhur Uluwatu, one of Bali’s supreme directional temples and most important sanctuaries (the member of “spiritual backbone” – Sad Kahyangan meaning “the places of God” in Sanskrit language). A tiny three tiered pagoda proudly perches on the edge of an 80 meter high vertical landmass, whilst the flanking precipices offer breath-taking vistas of the ocean. Beware though, as the resident cheeky monkeys like the game of snatching sunglasses, necklaces, cameras, caps, hats or even flip-flops.

Come dance with Diving IndoThe dramatic scenery of the sun setting picturesquely on the Uluwatu cliffs will herald the start of the Kecak show, Bali’s most famous fire dance. Most of the motives and characters featuring in fire dance are derived from the ancient Hindu chivalry epic Ramayana. No musical instruments are involved in Kecak, it is performed with the background of rhythmical chanting “cak cak cak” uttered by the team of around 50 male dancers.

At the end of your Uluwatu tour you have an option to dine at one of the seafood restaurants at Jimbaran beach; candlelit tables are set in the pleasantly cold sand, buskers entertaining you with their acoustic renditions while you enjoy the best of the mornings catch.
