Diving in Padang Bai

A picturesque port town, diving in Padang Bai is the best place in Bali to see turtles, sharks, breathtaking corals, and exotic fish galore. Shark Point and Gili Mimpang Tepekong are only for advanced divers. Open Water Divers and Advanced Divers alike can enjoy dive trips to the idyllic Blue Lagoon, Jepun, and The Jetty. All sites diving in Padang Bai are accessed via a traditional outrigger boat called a jukung.

Blue Lagoon

Depth 5-30 meters

Diving at the Blue Lagoon is like immersing yourself inside a giant aquarium. With sloping corals on your left and a beautiful wall dive to your right, Blue Lagoon boasts a spectacular number and variety of tropical reef fish.

Jepun

Depth 10-25 meters

Jepun (Balinese for frangipani flower) at Padang Bai is perfect for the macro lover – with ribbon eels and mantis shrimp scurrying around. A recently sunk fishing boat makes a great artificial wreck and temporary home to moray eels, huge groupers, and the occasional shark.

The Jetty

Depth 5-18 meters

The Jetty at Pandang Bai is a photographer’s dream. Teeming with weird and wonderful critters that hang around the jetty’s pylons –  frogfish, pipefish, mantis shrimp, flying gurnards, and loads of nudibranch. This site can get surge so can only be dived in certain conditions.

Shark Point

Depth 25-30 meters

Shark Point on Gili Mimpang (an island to the East of Pandang Bai) is the best place to see shark in Bali. Featuring a series of pinnacles, this site provides some spectacular wall diving.

Gili Tepekong

Depth 18-30 meters

Situated right next to Gili Mimpang to the east of Padang Bai, Gili Tepekong is a cleaning station in season (June to October) for the Mola Mola (or oceanic sunfish). Gili Tepekong also boasts an underwater cave that starts at 26m and goes up to 18m. Here, you will often encounter sleeping sharks as you dive!
